Detroit Free Press DNR probes slayings of wolves in western Upper Peninsula October 16, 2004, 10:07 AM WAKEFIELD, Mich. (AP) -- The state Department of Natural Resources is investigating the killings of two more wolves in the western Upper Peninsula, including one nearby that may have been witnessed by motorists. A 90-pound male wolf was found shot five miles south of Wakefield last month, according to DNR conservation officer Grant Emery. Authorities also are investigating the illegal killing of a male wolf in Ontonagon County. Emery said the dead wolf near Wakefield was reported to authorities, the Daily Globe of Ironwood reported.
